Midwest Bus Corporation, an Owosso-based transit bus rebuilder and parts supplier since 1980, announces an award to overhaul 60 Transit Buses for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority. The award also contains an option for MBTA to add an additional 156 buses.

This contract award is already having a very significant impact in Owosso and throughout the State of Michigan. From a local perspective, Midwest Bus Corporation has started the process of hiring approximately 60 new employees. Furthermore, Midwest Bus Corporation is spreading the business around the state with contracts to supply new engines (Cummins-New Hudson); newly designed coolant systems (Engineered Machined Products, Inc.-Escanaba); paint and paint supplies (Painters Supply & Equipment Co.-Taylor); decals (Edwards Sign and Screen Printing Inc.-Owosso) and numerous Michigan manufacturers and suppliers of additional parts that will be used in the overhaul.

“This contract will create jobs, bring federal funding to Michigan and further the ideals of public transportation and green manufacturing. Midwest will be working with our suppliers to redesign the electrical battery system with a geofencing option that will reduce emissions around Boston” said Robert Postma, the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Midwest Bus Corporation.
